Although Charlottesville, Virginia is close to where we live we had never visited this city which is home to the University of Virginia and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. When our good friend Zeynel Karcioglu accepted a faculty post at the University of Virginia Hospital Melek and I began our trips to Charlottesville. Melek and Zeynel’s spouse, Guler, are old friends (since elementary school in Ankara) and we have been visiting each other since the 1970s (in Cleveland, East Lansing, Atlanta, New Orleans, Charlottesville).
During our last visit we spent our time mostly outdoors, at a nearby farm and an antique car exhibit. The oldest cars were from the early 1900s. I got a kick out of seeing a 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme in the antique category, the automobile we had brought from the US to Turkey when we moved there in 1976 (the last photo in the gallery).
